
Day of the Deployed

WHEREAS, the United States is kept strong and free by the loyal citizens who protect our country and serve in the armed forces; and
WHEREAS, our deployed service members, at home and abroad, courageously answer our nation’s call to duty to defend our ideals and preserve peace and freedom around the world; and
WHEREAS, there are approximately 6,000 Alaskans currently deployed in all branches of the military; and
WHEREAS, as we enjoy our safety and freedom at home, we must not forget the men and women whose sacrifices make this possible; and
WHEREAS, the husbands, wives, children, parents, extended families and friends of deployed service men and women support our country as they stand behind their deployed family member.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sean Parnell, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim October 26, 2009 as:
Day of the Deployed
in Alaska, and encourage citizens to reaffirm their patriotism and allegiance to our flag and country, to honor our brave men and women in uniform who selflessly put their lives on the line to protect and preserve our way of life, and to offer support and assistance to the families of those who are deployed.
