WHEREAS, Alaska’s future depends on our children’s education, with schools that prepare the next generation of professionals, political leaders, artists, educators, and citizens to contribute to a healthy and prosperous society; and
WHEREAS, the principal is the head of a school, the leader of its teachers, and a guide to our students, and is a vital part of every school’s success; and
WHEREAS, school principals provide instructional leadership and professional management to attain essential sensible goals - enhancing teacher performance and improving student achievement; and
WHEREAS, the principal is key to the implementation of education reforms, leading the way to accountability for students, parents, the community, and stakeholders; and
WHEREAS, principals are the face of the schools in their communities, uniquely able to foster dynamic partnerships between the community and school to create a positive learning environment for students; and
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska recognizes and appreciates the skills, dedication, and commitment of school principals in the face of their daily challenges.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sean Parnell, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim November 13, 2009 as:
School Principal Recognition Day
in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to acknowledge the important role of school principals and support their professional dedication to educating future generations of Alaska citizens.
