
Governor Parnell Mourns the Loss of Soldier

November 6, 2009, Anchorage, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell offered his condolences to the family and friends of Specialist Julian L. Berisford, who died Wednesday in Paktika Province, Afghanistan.
“Specialist Berisford was a valiant soldier who honorably served our nation,” Governor Parnell said. “Sandy and I will keep his family and fellow soldiers in our thoughts and prayers through this terrible loss.”
Specialist Berisford, 25, of Benwood, West Virginia, was assigned to C Company, 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska. He died of injuries sustained when his patrol was hit with a rocket-propelled grenade and encountered small arms fire. Specialist Berisford leaves behind his wife and daughter.
