All appointed by the Governor. Required members: Individual with expertise in the education, training, and development needs of youths, particularly disadvantaged; Individual with experience in promoting the involvement of older adults in service and volunteerism; Representative of community-based agencies or community-based organization; Commissioner of Commerce; Representative of local governments; Representative of local labor organizations; Representative of business; Individual between age 16 and 25 who is a participant or supervisor in a national service program; Other members may include: local educators, experts in the delivery of human, education, environmental, or public safety services to communities and persons; Representative of Indian tribes; Members of out-of-school youths or other at-risk youths; Representatives of entities that receive assistance under the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973; Corporation for National Service Representative. The Governor may also appoint, as ex officio nonvoting members representatives of state agencies operating community service, youth service, education, social service, senior service, and job training programs. Function: The commission will prepare a national service plan for the State of Alaska that covers a three year period and is updated annually. Commission will develop a state system for recruiting and placing participants into programs that receive assistance under national service laws. Commission ensures outreach to diverse community-based agencies that serve under-represented populations using established networks or registers at the state level or establishes such networks and registers. Commission disseminates information regarding the national service programs and administers grant program. Chair: Commission elects. Special facts: State employees may not exceed 25 percent of the total voting membership. Not more than 50 percent of the voting members, plus one additional member, may be from the same political party.Serve at the pleasure of the governor. Compensation: Standard Travel and Per Diem. No additional compensation.
