Aerospace Corporation Board: Board of Directors of the Alaska Aerospace CorporationBoard identification number: 165 Department: DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEV Authority: AS 14.40.821 Status: Active Sunset date: Requirements: Financial Disclosure Prohibitions: None Term: 4 years Description: 11 members total - 9 are appointed by the Governor: 3 state residents who have a significant high level of experience in the private business sector, specializing in financing or economic development or marketing: two of the state residents appointed under this paragraph shall be residents of the borough where the launch activities of corporation occur if qualified candidates residing in the borough are available; President of UA or designee; Dir. of Geophysical Institute of UA or designee; Commissioner of DCCED or designee; 2 members who have held or currently hold positions in the aerospace or commercial space industry or special experience regarding federal regulatory procedures and policies involving space or operational experience (these 2 members may be nonresidents of the state); 1 public school educator or a public member. Two members of the Legislature currently serve as ex officio nonvoting members appointed by the Senate President and House Speaker. Function: To provide space launch services, promote aerospace-related economic growth and development in Alaska, and strengthen the state’s technological infrastructure. The Corporation owns and operates the Kodiak Launch Complex located on Kodiak Island, provides support for new and continuing national launch priorities involving the complex, and works with private corporations, universities, and government agencies to offer expanded aerospace services to Alaska and the nation. Chair: Board Elects. Special facts: Chair and vice-chair shall be selected from among the members who are state residents. Public corporation. Corporation may not be terminated as long as it has bonds, notes, or other obligations outstanding. Certified copies of minutes to Governor and Legislative Budget and Audit Committee. Board hires the Chief Executive Officer; they are exempt under AS 39.25. Compensation: Standard Travel and Per Diem. Industry/business/public members receive additional $100/dy. Meetings: At least once every 3 months. Majority is quorum.
