Term: 4 years Description: 6 members from U.S., 6 members from Canada: 6 U.S. members consist of one official of the U.S. government and one alternate with expertise in salmon conservation and management appointed by the Secretary of State; one official of the State of Alaska and one alternate with expertise in salmon conservation and management appointed by the Governor of Alaska; four members knowledgeable and experienced with regard to salmon fisheries of the Yukon River appointed by the Secretary of State from a list of at least three individuals nominated for each position by the Governor of Alaska. At least one panel member shall be qualified to represent interests of the Lower Yukon River fishing districts; one to represent the Upper Yukon fishing districts; and at least one panel member shall be Alaska Native; four alternate panel members who meet the same qualifications as panel members may be designated by the Secretary of State to serve in the absence of the panel member. The Governor of Alaska may appoint an advisory committee of not less than 8 but no more than 12 individuals who are knowledgeable and experienced with regard to the salmon fisheries of the Yukon River. At least two must be Alaska Native. Advisory committee terms are two years and are eligible for reappointment. Function: Conservation of salmon stocks originating from the Yukon River in Canada through development and implementation of agreed research and management programs; identification of restoration and enhancement opportunities; and submission of recommendations to management entities in Canada and Alaska. The panel also manages the new Yukon River Salmon Restoration and Enhancement Fund. Chair: No provision. Special facts: Compensation: Standard Travel and Per Diem.
