Term: 4 years Description: 14 members - 7 appointed by Governor which includes: 4 public; 1 from local community college advisory councils; 1 administrator from a proprietary institution of postsecondary education; 1 full-time student from nominees (by election). In addition, 7 members with following representation: 2 Board of Regents, 1 private higher education (selected jointly by the boards of trustees of Alaska Pacific University and Sheldon Jackson College from among their membership); 1 Dept. of Education and Early Development selected by the State Board of Education, 1 Alaska Workforce Investment Board member, 1 legislative member appointed by President of Senate, and 1 legislative member appointed by Speaker of the House; serve at pleasure of appointing authority; members elect chair. Function: Administers student loan programs; authorizes new facilities and programs. Chair: Commission selects. Special facts: Quorum - majority. Legislative Confirmation is required by statute, but not permissible under the Constitution. Compensation: Standard Travel and Per Diem.
