Description: 9 members: 2 shall be members of the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and elected by the PERS members for 6-year terms; 3 are members who have been appointed by the Governor for 6-year terms (one of these appointees must be, or have been, employed by a PERS employer other than the State of Alaska); in addition, the Governor shall also appoint 2 physicians as well as 2 physicians to serve as alternate members. All Governor-appointed members serve at the pleasure of the Governor.
Function: Prescribes policies, regulations and other activities to administer the Public Employees' Retirement System, the Supplemental Benefits System (S.B.S.), and the Deferred Compensation Program (D.C.P.); serves as an appeals board.
Chair: No provision.
Special facts: Board expenses paid from the Public Employees' Retirement Fund. Physician members of the board are not required to complete public official financial disclosure reports to the Alaska Public Offices Commission.
Compensation: Standard Travel and Per Diem. Honorarium of $150/day; physicians compensated at hourly rate.
Meetings: 10-12 times per year; 20-25 days total; special meetings as necessary.
