Employ Older Alaskan Workers Week
WHEREAS, Alaska’s senior citizens are a wonderful source of knowledge and carry experience from which younger Alaskans can learn and benefit from; and
WHEREAS, honoring Alaska’s senior citizens also provides an opportunity to reflect on the contributions and achievements of those responsible for the delivery of quality services for older Alaskans and whose continued focus on improving such important resources in the future is a valuable purpose within our society; and
WHEREAS, Alaskans join in paying tribute to our cherished population of senior citizens who enjoy active and productive lives and contribute to many aspects of life in this great state; and
WHEREAS, Alaska is committed to preparing older workers for the job market and providing them every opportunity to find meaningful employment; and
WHEREAS, older workers provide valuable resources in the workplace, bringing a depth and breadth of job skills, experience, and proven work ethic; and
WHEREAS, older workers serve as steadfast examples of the dedication and skill that is paramount as we develop each generation of our state’s workforce, leaders, and innovators;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Sean Parnell, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim September 20 – 26, 2009 as:
Employ Older Alaskan Workers Week
in Alaska, and urge all citizens to honor older workers during this week and throughout the year, and encourage everyone to promote and participate in activities that contribute to helping older Alaskans make informed employment choices.
