FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
No. 09-039

September 10, 2009, Anchorage, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell has ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff on September 11, 2009, which is Patriot Day. Patriot Day was signed into law on December 18, 2001, as a day to remember those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks against the United States.

“Today we honor those who lost their lives that day, as well as our United States servicemen and women who tirelessly continue to protect our freedom each day with dignity, courage, and strength,” Governor Parnell said.

State flags will remain at half-staff on Friday, in honor and memory of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. State flags will be raised to full-staff the following day.
