Because of the earthquake which struck Alaska at 5:36 p.m., Alaska Standard Time, March 27, 1964, and accompanying tidal waves and fires causing widespread loss to life and property, I hereby declare that a major disaster exists.

All State agencies and employees are directed to concentrate their efforts as far as is possible to providing emergency relief and recovery assistance.
