Anchorage Events
2009- 2010 Anchorage Museum Statehood Exhibits Life in Alaska Leading to Statehood - The Anchorage Museum’s new exhibition, Life in Alaska Leading to Statehood, re-creates the decade through photographs and objects such as Anchorage High School yearbooks, statehood ballots, household goods, toys and advertisements, contact 343-4326 or www.anchorgemuseum.org

Origins of the 49th State - As a companion to Life in Alaska Leading to Statehood, the museum offers an encore of 2005’s Creating Alaska: Origins of the 49th State. The exhibit was designed to honor the 50th anniversary of the Alaska Constitution.

June 27, 12 – 5 p.m. Alaska Statehood Celebration and Hero Games - Fourth Avenue between C and H Streets Part of Alaska's 50th Anniversary Celebration, the festival will include three performance stages: 5 Decades of Song and Dance, The Mickey Mouse Stage and Heroes Stage. The streets will be filled with street performers, the G Street Artists Fair, an antique car show, outdoor cafes and sidewalk sales, contact 279-5650.

July 1, 12 – 2 p.m. Canada Day Celebration - at Peratrovich Park, Fourth Ave and E Street. A Celebration of our Neighbors. Canada Day takes place in Peratrovich Park and will feature a concert with Air Force Band of the Pacific Alaska Brass, trivia contests with prizes, temporary tattoo’s, balloons, Canadian Mounties Cut Outs for photo’s, Canadian flags, give a ways and information on traveling in Canada. July 4, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Anchorage July 4th Celebration and Downtown Parade - at Delaney Park Strip. Daylong activities feature a combination of patriotic celebrations, cultural showcases, a parade, picnic and family activities, contact 279-5650.

Aug 21-22, 2009 Hawaii Statehood Celebration - Friday 12:00-1 p.m., Saturday 1 – 3 p.m. at the Peratrovich Park, Fourth Ave and E Street. Anchorage will celebrate Hawaii’s 50th Anniversary of Statehood with music and dance from the Islands. Part of Alaska's 50th Anniversary Celebration, contact 276-5520.

Mat-Su Valley Events
July 24, 2009 5:30-8:30pm-Mat-Su Annual Military Appreciation and Governors Picnic - Family filled picnic at Iditarod Park in Wasilla. Special tribute will be shown for our Military members and celebration of our 50th Anniversary of Alaska Statehood. Contact Lynn 376-1299.

Juneau Valley Events
July 3, 2009 Capital City Celebrates - Ball games early in day ending with community fireworks over downtown Juneau. Tentative community picnic to be held in Douglas along with a presentation of the new Douglas bandstand. An evening of festivities leading up to the grand finale of fireworks presented by the Juneau Festival Association and the City of Juneau. Contact 357-6665.

July 4, 2009 9:00am Reenactment of 1959 flag raising - event held in Juneau – followed by the Juneau Parade at noon and then on to Douglas for their parade and festivities.

Kenai Events
April 24, 2009- Statehood Gala: Reflections on Alaska Statehood, the 49th at 50 - The Kenai Visitors & Cultural Centers annual contemporary art invitational continues for its tenth year. The theme of the show is a reflection on Alaskan statehood. Contact 283-1991.

Seward Events
May 1-2, 2009- Celebrating Alaska Statehood - Seward Statehood Symposium at the Seward Library. The first day will open with an evening reception the second day will include a series of talks and discussion about statehood from a local and statewide perspective. Governor Hickel, Seward historian Mary Barry and others will be in attendance.

Whitter Events
July 4, 2009 - Come join us as we celebrate the City of Whittier’s 40th Anniversary with fireworks begin at 12:01 a.m. July 4th. Flag raisings begin at 9:00 a.m., a parade at 11:00 a.m. followed by free barbeque, games, classic cars, and family fun.
